It’s just come down the newsline that a woman has died while trying to win a Nintendo Wii. Contestants were supposed to drink as much water as possible without peeing to win the coveted game system. Inevitably, this will connected to our community forever as another example of stupid things people do to win a frivolous game system. What it should be labeled as is another stupid radio show endangering the lives of people for ratings. The show’s disclaimer and warning was minimal at best: if you feel sick, stop competing. There was no doctor on hand, nor did the radio station investigate the possible damage that a large and continual intake of water could do to the human body. It is sad that the Wii was used as the lure in this situation, but all of the blame should be placed on the people who allowed the situation to get out of hand.
