Time to renew one of our few traditions here on the Bus, the classic columnist’s trope, the thematic list of New Year’s Resolutions. And since I did this last year, I look back and what I said I’d do and see how I did. Last year after warning Peter Molyneux about expectations about Fable 2 (and since then, I have to say I’m not thrilled by the dog mechanic) I proceeded to lie about getting rid of my old Xbox, although it’s now contemplating it’s existence from inside my linen closet. I also didn’t layoff the racing fans this past year, but I will get around to trying the Burnout: Paradise demo one of these days…maybe. No surround sound system yet either, and to be honest, years of headphone use and my factory floor days left me with the ears of a snake. Last but not least: my non-PAX vacation! That didn’t happen. Unless you consider a day spent in the lobby of a car dealer while my vintage (for 1995) Mustang was having its wheels reattached…don’t ask.

Therefore, now that the New Year is upon us, the only thing left is to do before we start the gaming year in earnest is to decide what kind of promises I’ll break this year. Here we go:

1. Kick My Habit

My name is Seth 4:10 (not really) and I am an achievement point-aholic. I mock the serious problem of addiction to make myself aware that there are other systems out there other then the 360, and they have games that are just as good or even better. I can play the Heavenly Swords and Phantom Hourglasses of the world and take a break on making sure that I’m at the top of my Friends List point standings. I’m over 10K now; I can ease off the stuff for a while, and try to take it day-by-day, one-step at a time.

2. Spend “My” Money

Gift cards where in the news a lot over the holiday, I guess there wasn’t any really super pressing Issue that Really needs Addressing Quickly. The story was all the money consumers lost by not spending the total amount on the card (which if they took a minute to think about it, is almost impossible to do anyway). I laughed at their folly until I realized that I, like many gamers, am in the same boat. I bought both MS Points and Wii Virtual Console Points to get my Kick Ass Fallout 3 gamerpic, a couple of GH2 songs and the last great game made for the NES: Kirby’s Adventure. Now I have hundreds of each left. No, I’m hundreds of points behind and I need to catch up. Everyone should, right now, go online and see if they have money floating out there that they’ve already spent! The console manufactures and game distributors need our money to survive, let’s not make it too easy for them

3. Bring Peace to Earth

I might be biting off more than I can chew here, but I think I can at least find a way to make the world a little better place, for gamers anyway. This is how this is going to go: I’m a fan of the actor Jason Statham, (so is anyone who’s seen The Transporter, or any gamer who seen the most game-like movie made in the past 20 years: Crank). Soon his new film, In the Name of the King will be in theaters. And I know what you’re thinking, in fact I can actually hear the knuckles cracking and the teeth grinding from here. This is the Dungeon Siege movie…Uwe Boll’s Dungeon Siege movie. How can I do this to you? Well I’m sorry but I’m going to go see this movie, and then, regardless of quality, I’m going to come up with a way to make millions of gamers get along with this man. I know I can do it.
